Olympia Day Trip

Every Saturday. The Olympic games returned to Greece in 2004 and more recently to Great Britain in 2012 - and what better place to visit whilst on holiday than where it all began - the birthplace of the games, OLYMPIA! This truly memorable day out incorperates history, the original site, museum and the traditional village allowing a spot of shopping and eateries to complete the day. The warm up to the trip will be the short ferry ride ove to Kylini on the mainland and the drive down to the offical UNESCO World Heritage Archelogical site. Upon arrival, its time for the games to begin! A tour of the museum full or artifacts dating back hundreds of years and the history behind how the games began will take us to the tour of some of Greece’s treasures. You will see where the Temple of Zeus stood, one of the Seven Wonders of the World; the Temple of Hera, where the statue of Hermes was found and the original position of the Olympic flame and the original Olympic stadium, to name but a few historic points. Once at the Olympic Stadium, this is your time to be a true athelete whereby you can sprint along the original track surrounded by the embankment where spectators would have cheered all those years ago. The warm down comes in the form of a nice cold beer or something to eat in the village of Olympia itself, its streets lined with bunting reflecting its sporting past. So why not be an athelete for the day and join us on this winning day out to Olympia! Things to remember: Camera, hat, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, bottled water. Take Euros. There is a cash machine in the Village but sometimes it does not work! Included:-Tour escort and English speaking official guide for the site. Transfers from/to resorts. Boat tickets.
