Cefalu is beautiful Sicilian resort which dates back to the Norman times. These days people head there for a number of reasons, especially the beaches, the town, the scenery and of course the food. Best beaches include, local favourite - Settefrati - (say it quick and it makes you sound like a local). This is one of the most popular but does get a bit busy in the high season, plenty of places to eat and drink here. Il Lungomare (promenade) is 5KM of sandy beach with safe shallow water so great for kids. St Ambrogio has 2 shingle beaches and probably the most peaceful and less busy.

All Italian food is great but this place is special. Cefalu is full of the best bakeries, bistros, cafes, bars & restaurants you could ever wish to visit. You will go home heavier than when you arrive. Also don't forget the scenery, the fishing port with the grand Norman cathedral is a must place to visit. If you happen to be travelling in the first week of August you will be lucky enough to experience the Festa di San Salvatore where hundreds of men participate in the traditional barefoot race, The Corsa Degli Scalzi, a race over 2 days between San Salvatore and Cabras. It dates back to 1506 - if you are going ask a local why? It's a special weekend in the calendar.
