Stresa is one most beautiful resorts on Lake Maggiore. It's a great place to be based if you want to visit others resorts on the lake with regular ferry services and to the pretty islands in the middle of the lake. A must thing to do is to head up the mountain on the Mottarone cable where on a clear day you can see all of the Italian lakes from the top. If you make it all that way - you have to go the very top and take a ride on the roller coaster bobsleigh style ride - don't touch the breaks though!
