Saalbach and Hinterglemm are two pretty villages that sit in Austria's largest ski area; the aptly named Ski Circus. The 70 well-groomed slopes literally surround you and good intermediates can do the entire loop in a day (challenge on). There are 270km of postcard-worthy red and blue runs dotted with mountain huts serving up delicious, warming hot chocolates and schnapps. Perfect if you're a mile-hungry intermediate skier or boarder. If you hate queuing (don't we all) it's a great choice as it has one if the top five fastest lift systems in the world! Access to the mountain is easy from many points throughout the villages too so there's not so much walking with your ski gear. Beginners will love the gentle green and blue runs and the award-winning ski schools will get even the most nervous skier or snowboarder up and running in no time. There's plenty to keep non-skiers busy off the slopes too. There's plenty of lifts out of both villages to drop you in to the Ski Circus. A good starting point is from the top of the Schattberg Express in Saalbach as the slopes are south facing and at their best first thing. Try the long run over to Leogang for lunch to check that your legs are up to it. If your more advanced, there’s some steep blacks and moguls under the Schattberg Express gondola and the freeriding is some of the best in Austria! For those wanting some freestyle, there's a small park over in Hinterglemm to get some air time.
