Angelo Kastro better know as "The Castle of Angels", it  claims this name due to its location.  Sitting on the highest point on the North East coast in the quaint village of Krini above Paleokastritsa. This together with another two castles, Kassiopi and Gardiki are probably the most important in the history of Corfu.

The three castles formed a defensive triangle and were able to alert as soon as  attacks on the island were seen.

All three castles date back to the Byzantine era, historians date Angelo Kastro back as early as 7th century.  The castle sits on the precipitous and rocky terrain of the North East 305 metres above sea level.

Many attempts and sieges on Corfu and the castles were made during the years but were never successful as the castles viewpoints surveyed the region as far as the southern Adriatic.

Due to its proud position it was actually the capital of Corfu from 1387 till early 16th century. It became home to commander of the Venetian Fleet during this period confirming its importance on the island.

Guests wishing to visit will need to head to the car park of Krini and from here there is a 10 min walk up hill.  A small entrance fee of 2 euros for adults, (children are free) is charged. Discover the castles ruins, walk along what were the city walls and climb to the top for those breath taking views.
