Commonly known as Ir-Rotunda tal-Mosta (The Dome of Mosta), this awe-inspiring church was built in 1860, replacing the church of St Mary that had previously stood there, in 1614.

This is the fourth largest dome in the world, but it is most famous for a particular incident that occurred during the Second World War. In 1942, a bomb had shattered through the dome, landing on the church floor without exploding. The church was crowded when the bomb fell through the ceiling, but all were spared. The bomb is now on display in a small museum which is attached to the church.

Mosta's titular feast, St Mary (also known as The Assumption of Our Lady), is one of the most popular local feasts and is celebrated on the 15th August, every year. See the bomb that almost destroyed this church during World War II
