This imposing dome was originally a chapel built with funds provided by the Knight Fra Martino de Sarria, in 1585.

The chapel was replaced by a church dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, built by Grandmaster Navarro Nicholas Cottoner and designed by the painter Mattia Preti, in 1676. This second construction was built in gratitude for the end of the plague of 1675.

The aesthetics combine both the Baroque and Classical influences of the time. The most precious possessions here are the 7 large canvases
