The festival of the flood celebrates the receding of the waters after the big flood of the old testament. All coastal towns in Cyprus celebrate this event with street markets selling traditional food and drinks as well as toys and curiosities. The festival also coincides with Pentacost so is a movable feast being 50 days after Easter Sunday (Orthodox). 2019 the festival falls on June 17th.
On the Sunday before and on the Monday of the festival it is best not to wear your best clothes as water is thrown around to wish each other good fortune.
